Arado AR 231.
The submarine borne aircraft concept dated back to the First World War. Prior to the advent of Radar, the aircraft offered the only means of extending the effective reconnaissance range othe [sic] underwater vessel. The Arado AR 231 could be quickly dismantled & stowed in a tube of 6.56 feet diameter. Six in toatal [sic] were built in 1941, but the programme was then cancelled.
