RAF Ouston was located in Northumberland 10 miles (16) kms north-west of Newcastle upon Tyne.

The station opened in March 1941 and formed part of Fighter Command for the rest of the war. Hurricane and Spitfire squadrons used the station as did air-sea rescue and army co-operation units with Defiants, Walruses and Ansons. Night-fighter radar operators were trained at the station late in the war in Ansons and Wellingtons.
