ROYAL AIRCRAFT ESTABLISHMENT,
FARNBOROUGH, HANTS
19th June 1944
Dear Wing Commander Cheshire,
I am afraid the enclosed is very late, but all things get late here owing to lack of staff to do reports, etc.
I have very bad news regarding Alfas, too. There is one 2.9 litre owned by High Hunter, which he would not sell under £2500. There is a very good 2.3 litre which a friend of mine saw recently, for which the chap wanted £1000 – ridiculous of course, but only too true. There is also a very nice B.M.W/Frazer Nash which has had hardly any use at all, which belongs to a friend of mine at the War Office. I think he might sell it for £850 or £900, which it is more or less worth these days, but I have not asked him about that specifically.

I understand from Mr Gardner that your show was a success, as usual. If your “George” continues to give good service in this way, you will be a very good advertisement for us when we come to deal with other squadrons. When I come up again to Coningsby in about two weeks, I hope you will be able to give me the full story of the performance, as we need all the testimony we can get. I hope you will forgive the lengthy and detailed character of the enclosed letter and report, but I want to give the question of “George” performance in the Service the same attention in detail as I would an actual operational job, had I the good fortune to have taken part in attacks on the enemy. We cannot hope to get parity with the American equipment until we pay the same attention to detail as they do.
I will call on Thompson & Taylor when I next go to Vickers, and will let you no if anything interesting is available.
I am, sir,
Yours respectfully,
Kenneth Hole
