Dear Wing Commander Cheshire,
It was most kind of you to write when my brother W.O.2 Brian de Courcy O'Grady was reported missing. I apologise for not thanking you before this, but the thought that I might hear good news at any time, if I were just to ignore the first report, has kept me from writing.
I have not by any means

given up hope that he is safe somewhere, and shall continue to look forward to hearing further news from you.
In the meantime, thank you again for your very kind note.
Sincerely.
Helen de Courcy O'Grady
