AIR MINISTRY,
LONDON, S.W.1.
23rd May, 1945.
Dear Donaldson
Thank you very much for the photograph of the Squadron Crest. It will serve to remind me of my exceedingly happy association with 192. From the moment I was privileged to come into the picture – on the days when you were a flight of 109 – until he very last sortie I have met only the very highest degree of co-operation. The keeness with which your Squadron has always tackled every job however hopeless and unnecessary some of them may have seemed at the time has always been a great inspiration to myself and my staff.
The work of your Squadron has had repercussion on so many operational tasks that it will never be possible properly to assess how enormous its value has been but I can say without hesitation that the contribution it has made to the intelligence picture has been quite invaluable always and frequently absolutely vital.
During 31/2 years I have never had the slightest misgiving in my conviction that “if there is a signal on the air 192 will find it.”
All my officers who have come into contact with yourself and your Squadron join with me in offering you our most grateful thanks for your unstinted help through exceedingly sticky times.
Yours ever
F.C Daubney.
Wing Commander D.W. Donaldson, D.S.O., D.F.C.,
192 Squadron,
R.A.F. Foulsham,
Nr. Dereham,
Norfolk.
