Sergeant S. G. Attwood joined the R.A.F., 1942 and after training as a Flight Engineer was posted to Bomber Command; as Flight Engineer of Lancaster ‘O for Oboe,’ 50 Squadron, he was present in a number of the “1000 bomber” raids of 1943 and 1944; the targets included Berlin, Essen, Augsburg, Schweinfurt, Frankfurt, Aachen and the raid on Munich when 100 of our aircraft failed to return.
All seven crew members of ‘O for Oboe’ survived the war; Grenada Television gathered them together and made a documentary around them entitled ‘If I don’t come back, have a drink with me’ (screened, 15th July, 1969)
