20 Items. The collection concerns Sergeant Edward Milling DFM (656624 Royal Air Force) and contains his log book, correspondence, newspaper cuttings and four photographs. Edward Milling was a navigator with 103 and 166 Squadrons at RAF Elsham Wolds and RAF Kirmington. It is with pleasure that I have to forward the undermentioned citation from the London Gazette of 10th April 1945, relative to the award of the Distinguished Flying Medal to your late husband.
Air Ministry,
10th April 1945,
The KING as approved the following award in recognition of gallantry and devotion to duty in the execution of air operations.
DISTINGUISHED FLYING MEDAL
Flight Sergeant.
656624 Edward MILLING, R.A.F., 103 Sqn. [Squadron], with effect from 26th September, 1943 (since deceased).
It is notified that arrangements will be made by Air Ministry for the presentation of this decoration to his next of kin at an Investiture to be held at Buckingham Palace on a date which will be notified to you by that department.
