Cranwell,
2 [9 corrected: was 8] th April 1942.
Darling
Many thanks for your nice letter & also the Card. I hadnt [sic] forgotten the date but I did not realize that it was upon me.
Well old girl much water has Passed under the bridge during the last 5 years. Much of it has been troubled but we have had a good trip so far taking everything into consideration & we have shipped a couple of good little chaps as crew. If this Ruddy war had not come along we would have been so happy now. When you think of David as Mrs Jolly’s "Sausage" & how he used to pull the books out of the Book shelf at Watton & then look at him now he has progressed a lot too has he not.
Well I have applied for my leave from the 18th to 25th of May, because that is the first available date. If I leave
[page break]
it any later I may not get more in July and it is also rumoured that we shall be moving up to Carlisle on the 11th June, so around about that date all leave passes will be suspended.
I was on guard last night and it was bitterly cold so I am going to [deleted] work [/deleted] bed early tonight because I feel a bit dopey at present.
Have you written to Wyrley lately Dad says he has not heard from you and also wants to know if the furnitures [sic] OK etc. I think Rex is paying Mrs Ross. to look after them at least that Is what I can gather from Dads [sic] letter.
I have hardly had time to get down to that German book yet but It seems quite interesting Really. As to when I am going to get my dance pumps on I dont [sic] know. I tried them on the other night. They did seem long and narrow after service boots but they are quite comfy Really. In due course I suppose I shall bring my "Gym back to Norley un used [sic].
