Description
Gives a detailed account of "death march" by 30,000 allied prisoners of war from Poland during last months of the second world war, in appalling weather conditions, as the Russian advanced. He tells of thousands of German civilians also making their way westward. Then follows a detailed daily account of George Thomson's long march, up to 5 February 1945, after which they were transported by train in cattle wagons. He describes the food issued and the medical condition of prisoners.
