Bomber Command last night sent more than 1000 aircraft to Stuttgart and Nuremberg, the main objectives. A lighter attack was made on Wiesbaden in the Rhineland. Stuttgart had two attacks within 4 ½ hours. Flak was moderate, and although fighters were seen there were few combats. Nine aircraft of Bomber Command are missing says the Air Ministry communique. [underlined] Fourth Operation NUREMBERG Thursday night. 19th October 1944. Airborne 7hrs 30mins [/underlined] [underlined] Fifth Operation FLUSHING Saturday Afternoon, 21st October 1944. Airborne 3hrs 15mins [/underlined] Significantly, soon after noon to-day, Lancasters of Bomber Command bombed enemy gun positions on the island of Walcheren near Flushing. R.A.F. and Czech Spitfires provided a fighter umbrella during the attack. There was some flak opposition, but no enemy fighters were encountered. Returning crews said that very few fields had escaped flooding and in the south of the island in particular houses and trees stood out above great sheets of water. Transcription Text transcribed from audio recording or document By Myno Van Dyke Glen Wesley BROOKS Pilot Officer/Air Gunner J88793 [photograph] Glen Wesley Brooks From Newcastle. Ontario. Killed in action October 7, 1944 at age 21. He was born on December 21, 1922 in Darlington Twp. and was married to Dora M. Martin (from Clarke Twp.) on April 24, 1943. Dora was the daughter of James P. Martin and Laural McMillan. Dora Martin died in Bowmanville June 10, 2001. Glen Brooks served with the #426 Thunderbird Squadron. His Halifax aircraft # NP 789, was shot down by flak during a night operation to Dortmund, Germany. P/O J.T. Short was also killed. One of the crew, not Canadian, was missing and believed killed. Three Canadians, F/L Scott. F/O Ames, and P/O Mack were taken Prisoners of War. One other Canadian, P/O Livingstone, was either an Evader or was taken Prisoner of War.
