In chapter one he expresses a desire to always have wanted to join the RAF, however he tells of his eventful start to life of applying and starting training school for the RAF. The remaining chapters detail his operational career and his spell as an instructor. It concludes with him being shot down on his second tour and being the only survivor of his crew. Jo Lancaster completed 54 operations as a pilot with in Wellingtons with 40 Squadron, and after a period of instructing, in Lancasters with 12 Squadron from RAF Wickenby. He became test pilot after the war and was the first person to use a Martin-Baker ejection seat in an emergency.
