Attended No 7 Air Gunnery School, 28 OTU, 1656 Conversion Unit, and the Pathfinders National Training Unit before being posted to 156 Squadron for operations. Moved to 582 Squadron in May 1944. Served at RAF Stormy Down, RAF Wymeswold, RAF Lindholme, RAF Upwood, RAF Warboys, RAF Little Staughton. Aircraft flown were Defiant, Whitley, Wellington, Lancaster.
