Trained as a wireless operator with No. 4 Radio School, No. 6 Advanced Flying Unit, 83 Operational Training Unit, 1667 Heavy Conversion Unit and No. 1 Lancaster Finishing School. Posted to 550 Squadron for operations.&#13;
&#13;
In April 1945 posted to No. 10 Radio School as an instructor.&#13;
&#13;
Served at RAF Madley, RAF Peplow, RAF Sandtoft, RAF Hemswell, RAF North Killingholme, RAF Carew Cheriton.&#13;
&#13;
He flew 33 bombing operations (19 day and 14 night). Targets were Le Havre, Sterkrade, Saintes, Flers, Chateau Bernapre, Domléger, Oisemont-Neuville, Orleans, Neufchatel, Caen, Revigny, Sannerville, Kiel, St. Leu, Pauillac, Fontenay, Dugny (Paris), Douai, Le Culot (Brussels), Stettin, Ghent-Terneuzen Canal, Russelheim, Wemars Cappel [Wemaers-Cappel], Agenville, Steenwijk, Sangatte, Neuss, Cap Gris Nez.&#13;
&#13;
His pilot for all operations was Flying Officer Lord.&#13;
On 24/25th June 1944 his aircraft was attacked by a Focke Wolf 190. &#13;
&#13;
On 7th July his aircraft was damaged by anti-aircraft fire.&#13;
&#13;
On 13th July he had to bale out of his Lancaster near to Wattisham due to lack of fuel.&#13;
&#13;
Includes his commissioning scroll as Pilot Officer, RAF Volunteer Reserve from 9th November 1943 and Flying Officer, RAF Volunteer Reserve from 24th October 1967.&#13;
