[underlined] NOTES:- [/underlined]

(a) It is considered that one of the S.E. Fighter Staffeln in S. Norway has a strength of about 20 aircraft.

(b) There are indications that the Ju.88 Fighters based in Western France are carrying out a small number of free-lance night interception patrols over the Bay of Biscay.

(c) [underlined] Training Units. [/underlined] The figures shown in the above table under the heading of R.T.U., represent the estimated strength of training aircraft considered likely to operate.

Greater number of aircraft are present at the bases indicated, but the remainder are not likely to participate in active operations.

(d) [underlined] Fighter Bombers. [/underlined] The fighter bombers shown above may operate from any temporary base from Brest to the Frisians at any time without our obtaining previous knowledge of their movements.

Fighter Bombers and S.E.F. type reconnaissance aircraft may also operate in emergency as defensive fighters.

Aircraft of a Staffel of Single-Engined Fighters in the ST. ANDRE DE L’EURE Area operate as night fighters.

It is considered that a total of up to 20 S.E. and T.E. fighters are liable to operate in defence of industrial targets, training or factory airfields, repair depots and aircraft parts in Germany and occupied territory. Those aircraft are only for local defence and do not form part of the establishment of first line operational fighter units.

In addition to the above, fighter units which are re-equipping in Southern Germany and Austria are liable to operate in a defensive capacity when called upon to do so.

I hasten to reply to your letter of May 22nd and beg you to tell young Luxtons Mother that I shall soon be sending her the photograph she asks for. Please express to her my keen and deep sympathy in the name of Our Lord and the respectful thanks that we have in our hearts for her and all bereaved mothers. We appreciate the full extent of the sacrifice they have made, and the sacrifice of the young men who have given their lives. May Jesus grant her all the strength needful to bear this trial. He who knows what it is since he has said "Greater love hatch no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friend." There is no need to pay me for the photo – please accept it as a very slight token of affection and gratitude. I do not know when the photographer will go to the cemetery, but one of my Church members who lives at [indecipherable word] will see to it, and as soon as possible I will send the photo to you. Please accept Madame the expression of my deepest respect.

Dear Madam, In reply to your letter of last month, I am sending you two photographs of Sgt Luxton's grave at [indecipherable name] as you will see, he has been buried with the four companions who were with him. I should be grateful if you would tell Mrs Luxton that I beg her not to fix her attention on these photos. I is perfectly natural that she wishes to see them but that must not prevent her from looking higher and farther, to the resurrection of the dead, promised in Gods word. At Bernary there is one of your fellow countrymen who looks after the graves to see that they are
