309 Items and a sub-collection of 51 items. Concerns Royal Air Force career of Wing Commander David Donaldson DSO and bar, DFC. A pilot, he joined the Royal Air Force Reserve in 1934. Mobilized in 1939. he undertook tours on 149, 57 and 156 and 192 Squadrons. He was photographed by Cecil Beaton at RAF Mildenhall in 1941. Collection contains a large number of letters to and from family members, friends as well as Royal Air Force personnel. Also included are personal and service documents, and his logbooks. In addition, there are photographs of family, service personnel and aircraft. After the war he became a solicitor. The collection also contains an oral history interview with Frances Grundy, his daughter.
The collection has been loaned to the IBCC Digital Archive for digitisation by Anna Frances Grundy and catalogued by Nigel Huckins.

Just a line to say we spent a very pleasant Xmas with your charming daughter & her mother who is a delightful hostess not to mention a most excellent cook. Frances has got as far as saying door! door! when she wants to get out of a room. She is most painstaking with regard to making the doll's bed & although she has a will of her own, as your mother says she is most reasonable & paid yr mother the compliment of howling when we came away. She and I went for a walk in the pram & the sunshine this morning & even

309 Items and a sub-collection of 51 items. Concerns Royal Air Force career of Wing Commander David Donaldson DSO and bar, DFC. A pilot, he joined the Royal Air Force Reserve in 1934. Mobilized in 1939. he undertook tours on 149, 57 and 156 and 192 Squadrons. He was photographed by Cecil Beaton at RAF Mildenhall in 1941. Collection contains a large number of letters to and from family members, friends as well as Royal Air Force personnel. Also included are personal and service documents, and his logbooks. In addition, there are photographs of family, service personnel and aircraft. After the war he became a solicitor. The collection also contains an oral history interview with Frances Grundy, his daughter.
The collection has been loaned to the IBCC Digital Archive for digitisation by Anna Frances Grundy and catalogued by Nigel Huckins.

We were very glad to hear from Joyce that you are in hospital.
There is no doubt that you were very unwell & quite unfit for work & you have got to think of others' risks as well as your own.
Of course this temporary set back is most disappointing to you but the human organism will only stand a certain amount of strain without showing signs of it & if you

go on after that will crack up altogether.
You have nothing to [indecipherable word] yourself with – you have done everything humanly possible having regard to [inserted] your [/inserted] physical & mental make up & no one can do more. When you are in better health you will see on looking back that you have done exceedingly well. I'm afraid after so much excitement things may seem a bit dull

There ain't no news in these parts it's all the daily round & common task. Your mother is very busy with rates courts & so on at present.
On Sat we propose to go to the Compton

for a couple of nights change & the follg WE we propose to go to Godalming for Ns confirmation unless he gets mumps. He had his professoress of stammering down for the last W.E. & found her rather overpowering.
We have had 3 alarms. In the 1st the guns went off but the sirens didn't so we sat in the hall

The second time the sirens went & your mother put on her siren costume & the household entered the dug out & there was some shooting but not near.
Last night the sirens went we entered the dug out & nothing else happened & the all clear went about ½ an hour after but I

dreamed a very realistic air Raid after getting back to bed
When shall we be seeing you again? Peel was here last W.E. Ian has joined the L D V to guard the houses of Parliament
The French seem holding their own all right so far & the Dollar exchange keeps up
