I have just been repatriated from Germany, where I was in the same camp as your husband. I am glad to be able to give you first hand news of him, & tell you that he was fit & well & in good spirits when I last saw him.
We were both on the same squadron & when I first saw him in Germany I noticed that he had lost weight. He also had burns on the hands. By the time I left, however, the burns had cleared up & he was putting on weight again. F/Lt. King, the navigator was also there & F/Lt. Hill (as no doubt you know) got home. I have no news of the other members of the crew.
It seems as tho’ the war may be over soon, so I hope you will be welcoming him home before long.
With best wishes, Yours sincerely,
PR Sherlock</text>

Dear Mrs. Wareing,
Many thanks for your letter. I hope you are continuing to receive news of your husband. You must not worry if the postal situation from Germany becomes erratic, or even ceases altogether. This will be one of the first things to happen before Germany’s collapse.
In reply to your kind enquiries regarding my injuries, I [inserted] am [/inserted] not really injured in the military sense, but had the misfortune to develop tuberculosis while in Germany. This was sufficient to get me repatriated, but as I have to spend two years in hospital here it

seems that repatriation and freedom are not necessarily synonymous.
With Best Wishes,
Yours sincerely,
