He flew operations as a pilot with 83 Squadron and was shot down on his second tour after 52 operations. He evaded to Switzerland and subsequently re-escaped through France to Spain. On return to Great Britain, he retrained on Mosquito and flew a further 40 operations on 571 Squadron. He continued to fly in the RAF after the war.
