Title

Aircrew an aircraft

Description

Top - Seven airmen wearing battledress and side caps in an outdoors location. The annotation on the rear of the phtograph, largely repeated on the album page, reads: "106 - Syerston 1943. Standing L To R: 1. Pilot EJ Foulsham (RAAF), 3 [sic] M/U Keenan; Middle Row: 1. F/E Bright, 2. B/A Hayward; Front Row: 1. RG Black, 2. W/OP Yeomans, 3. Nav Coxon." This crew flew 24 operations with 106 Squadron between April and August 1943, when they transferred to another squadron.

Bottom - Photograph of Lancaster, coded G, with nose art reading "Let George Do It!". An adjacent album label reads" Left to Right - [Rear Row] Pop Smith MUG, Laurie Modistach W/OP, Arthur Baggeley F/Eng, Alan Roper Pilot, Will Goldthorpe B/A, Hank Gardiner NAV, Harry Smith RAG. [Front Row]: 1 [Blank], 2 Ken Taylor Flt/Mech Eng, Cpl Webster ENG, Nobby Hall Airframe Fitter. The annotation on the rear of the photograph, however, disagrees with the album information in several aspects and reads: "L to R - Back Row 1 Harry Smith RAG; 2 Hank Gardiner NAV; 3 Wilf Goldthorpe A/B; 4 Alan Roper (Skipper); 5 Arthur Baggeley F/ENG; 6 Laurie Nodistach WOP; 7 Pop Smith MUG" [For the record, the crew is listed in the 106 Sqn Operations Record Book as: F/O S Roper (Aus) Captain; Sgt A E Baggaley F/E; F/Sgt SW Gardiner Nav; F/Sgt W Goldthorpe B/A; F/O OLH Modistach (Aus) W/Op; Sgt EC Smith MUG; Sgt HA Smith RG].
