Title

Airmen

Description

Top left - Seven airmen standing on the port side of a Lancaster bearing the code ZN-Z. All are wearing battledress trousers, shirt and tie, with one wearing a battledress jacket. Four wear parachute harness. Attached labels identify them as, from left to right (rear row): F/Lt Jim Cooper [pilot]; Sgt A Spencer (F/E); Sgt H Bailey (MUG); Jack Tucker (R.AG) and front row: F/O Johnnie Buzza (Can) (W/OP); Sgt DB Gregory (B/A); F/O F (Paddy) Drew. NAV. An annotation on the rear of the photograph reads "J Tucker, 81 Wells Road, Glastonbury, Coningsby 1942".
Top right - Airman wearing battledress trousers, shirt, tie, parachute harness and oxygen mask standing next to an aircraft rear gun turret. A separate label reads "Jack Tucker, R.AG, ZN-Z". This airman is Sgt F J Tucker.
Bottom left- Head and shoulders portrait of an RAF airman wearing service dress. He carries a pilot's brevet and a DFM medal ribbon An annotation on the rear of the photograph reads: "Doug Hamilton, Coningsby 1942" This identifies the airman as Sgt Douglas Hamilton who completed a tour with 106 Sqn, and a second with 83 (Pathfinder) Sqn. He was later commissioned and awarded a DFC. The second medal ribbon is problematic and cannot be definitively identified. It resembles that of the 1939-43 Star but that was only worn from late 1943; i.e. contradicting the dated annotation.
