J W Moore’s Flying Log Book from 6th May 1942 until 31st May 1945. Trained as a navigator and also qualified as a bomb aimer and air gunner. Trained at No. 2 Air Gunners School, No. 2 Bombing and Gunnery School, No. 2 Air Observers School, No. 4 Advanced Flying Unit, 17 Operational Training Unit, 1654 Heavy Conversion Unit and No. 5 Lancaster Finishing School. Posted for operations to 9 Squadron in May 1944 as a navigator. Served at RAAF Port Pirie, RAF West Freugh, RAF Silverstone, RAF Turweston, RAF Wigsley, RAF Syerston, RAF Bardney. Aircraft flown were Anson, Battle, Oxford, Wellington III, Wellington X, Stirling, Lancaster I, B-17 Flying Fortress. Moore carried out 38 operations ( 12 day bombing, 21 night bombing, 2 night transits to/from Archangel for the Tirpitz, 2 day Operation Exodus and 1 day Cook’s Tour). Targets included Duisburg, Brunswick, Nantes, St Martin De Varreville, Argentan, Rennes, Orleans, Poitiers, Aunay-sur-Odon, Chatellerault, Watten, Gelsenkirchen, Limoges, Vitry-le-Francois, Beauvoir, Saint-Leu-d'Esserent, Culmont-Chalindrey, Kiel, St Cyr (Paris), Givors, Mont-Candon, Trossy, Etaples, Lorient, La Pallice, Brest, Munster, the Tirpitz in Tromsø Fjord, Lille. His pilot for all his operations was Squadron Leader Melrose.
