Dear Mrs. Wells,
It is with the deepest regret that I have received a telegram from Air Ministry, giving information through the International Red Cross Committee stating that your Son is now classified missing, believed killed.
This news has come as a very grievous blow to us all and I and the officers and all personnel of the Squadron who knew him wish to convey to you our very deep sympathy in your sad loss, and to express our admiration for him in the way he always carried out his duty as a Tail Gunner, and to say how much we all honour the unselfish sacrifice he has made in the cause of freedom and in the service of the British Commonwealth of Nations.
I trust you will not hesitate to let me know if there is any way in which I may be of assistance to you.
