Handwritten note describing J C Aston's record of service. It states that he was posted to 83 Sqn, RAF Wyton on 3 March 1943. His first operation was to Berlin on 29 March 1943 and his second raid was to Essen. His aircraft was shot down and crew killed. He is buried at Rheinberg War Cemetery. The note lists his fellow crew members and details bomb loads carried.

Here’s some information on our [underlined] James Carlton ASTON [/underlined] SGT Service no. 1209308. Air observer Posted to RAF WYTON 83SQ. From 1661 Conversion Unit on 3/3/1943

His first raid on [underlined] Berlin [/underlined] in Lancaster D5625 they bombed from 20,000 feet 29/3/1943.

His second raid was on [underlined] Essen [/underlined] in a Lancaster I LM302 OL-H 83SQ Take off 20.10 from RAF Wyton

Shot down near München Gladbach and were buried Städtfredhof, they now rest in [underlined] Rhineberg [/underlined] War Cemetary [sic] :- SGT J.C ASTON is now commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial.
