BOMBER COUNTY

Lincolnshire without the RAF is hard to imagine. Both the Royal Naval Air Service and Royal Flying Corps established bases in the first World War and some of these grew into the present permanent stations so well known to all. Although the county will be forever associated with the bomber offensive of the second world war, the part played by the flying training schools between the wars and the contribution of the Royal Air Force College, Cranwell must not be forgotten. In 1978 no less than eight major RAF stations still play an active part in the life of the county.

This book is the story of a happy association which has lasted for more than 60 years and which the county is proud to acknowledge.

Terry Hancock is a librarian who has had a lifelong interest in the RAF. His National Service took him to Aden and since 1953 he has been a spare time member of the Royal Observer Corps. He is also a member of the Lincolnshire Aviation Society and Cranwell branch of the Royal Aeronautical Society.
