Observer’s and air gunner’s flying log book for A E Brown, air gunner, covering the period from 19 November 1942 to 29 November 1944. Detailing his flying training, operations flown and instructor duties. He was stationed at 7 Air Gunnery School RAF Stormy Down, 81 Operational Training Unit RAF Tilstock (aka RAF Whitchurch Heath), 1656 heavy Conversion Unit RAF Lindholme, 100 Squadron RAF Grimsby (aka RAF Waltham), 18 Operational Training Unit RAF Worksop and 214 Squadron RAF Oulton. Aircraft flown in were Defiant, Whitley, Halifax, Lancaster, Martinet, Wellington and Fortress. He flew a total of 49 operations, 25 night operations with 100 Squadron and 24 night operations with 214 Squadron. Targets were Dortmund, Dusseldorf, Essen, Wuppertal, Bochum, Oberhausen, Mulheim, Cologne, Gelsenkirchen, Turin, Hamburg, Mannheim, Milan, Nurnberg, Hagen, Munich, Ludwigshafen, Stuttgart, Culmont-Chalindrey, Wanne Eickel, Brunswick, Stettin, Karlsruhe, Kaiserslautern, Saarbrucken, Sterkrade and Munchen Gladbach. Other operations are listed as special operations, including the Netherlands and Denmark. His pilots on operations were Warrant Officer Smith, Flight lieutenant Puterbaugh, Flying Lieutenant Wright, Flying Officer Hell, Flying Officer Rix, Flight Lieutenant Savage, Flying Officer Scholes and Flight Lieutenant Lye.
