Memoir of Emilia Garland (nee Ocardi). WAAF 429 Squadron.

Recounts life in Glasgow (Clydebank) at the beginning of the war. Incudes tales of bliztz bombing, blackout, sirens and evacuation. Talks of continuing business though blitz. Eventually tired of hard work in family business, despite parental opposition, decided to join up. Goes onto describe experiences and training at RAF Innsworth. (includes b/w photograph) and then on to RAF Leeming where she worked as a sergeants mess waitress. Describes life on camp in detail. Mentions attack by German bomber and tells other several anecdotes of incidents. Tells of effect of casualties on relationships, recreation and entertainment. Mentions royal visit. Relates her love life and meeting her future husband. At end of war she was posted to RAF Bracknell while her fiancé was posted to Europe. They married in September 1946. Continues with description of life, post war postings, demob and life after the war. Includes b/w photographs of Emilia, Vic and family.
