A ceremony to honour the 50th anniversary of the crash of two bombers. Basil Forshaw was one of the crew.
This article details two ceremonies at Heiteren and Appenwihr cemeteries to commemorate the 50th anniversary crash of two Lancaster bombers. These were shot down on the night of 27th to 28th April 1944 and the twelve aircrew were buried in the two cemeteries. There is a list of the dignitaries who attended, including the sole survivor, Mr Douglas Bridges. He was presented with a piece of the Appenwihr Lancaster. Apart from the laying of wreaths, the ceremonies included the participation of local children, the local choir and fire brigade band. It concluded with drinks in the village hall.
