Description
W Gall’s Flying Log Book from 30th September 1942 until 27th February 1946. During this time trained and flew as a navigator. He trained at No. 9 (Observers) Advanced Flying Unit, No. 16 Operational Training Unit, No. 1661 Conversion Unit. Posted to 9 Squadron for operations in June 1943. On completion of his first operational tour in April 1944, he was posted to 26 Operational Training Unit as a navigator instructor.
In February 1945 posted to 97 Squadron for his second tour of operations. At the end of April 1945 he was posted to 630 Squadron and then to 50 Squadron in July.
Served at RAF Penrhos, RAF Llandwrog, RAF Upper Heyford, RAF Winthorpe, RAF Bardney, RAF Wing, RAF Coningsby, RAF East Kirkby, RAF Sturgate.
Aircraft flown were Anson, Wellington, Manchester, Lancaster, Oxford, Warwick.
Gall flew a total of 46 operations. With 16 OTU he flew one night leaflet dropping operation to Orléans. His pilot was Squadron Leader Bunker.
With 9 Squadron he flew 27 night bombing operations. His pilots were Squadron Leader Bunker, Wing Commander Porter and Pilot Officer Chambers. Targets for these operations were Dusseldorf, Bochum, Oberhausen, Cologne, Krefeld, Gelsenkirchen, Genoa, Essen, Hamburg, Mannheim, Milan, Peenemunde, Hannover, Munich, Stuttgart, Berlin, Brunswick, Schweinfurt, Augsburg, Marignane.
He also flew 8 night bombing operations with 97 Squadron, with Flight Lieutenant Coulter as pilot. Targets were Ladbergen, Böhlen, Harburg, Lutzkendorf, Wurzburg, Molbis.
He undertook 2 Operation Exodus with 630 Squadron to Brussels. His for these operations was Flight Lieutenant Wallace. With 50 Squadron he flew 1 Cook's Tour and 7 Operation Dodge to Pomigliano.
