National Health Insurance
[underlined] Air Ministry Order A29/40. [/underlined]
Dear Sir,
We refer to the above order which provides that all officers promoted to emergency commissions from the ranks have been compulsorily insured during service in the ranks, and will remain compulsorily insured for National Health and Pensions insurance during the continuance of emergency service.
The contributions are at the special rates of 1/4 per week until the end of 1941 and at 1/5 thereafter, the monthly calculations being based upon the number of Mondays in the month.
We accordingly propose to deduct the sum[inserted]s[/inserted] of £1.16– & £1.16.10 from your May & June issue[inserted]s[/inserted] of pay, made up as follows:
27.6.41 to 4.7.42 i.e. 27 weeks @ 1/4 in May
26 weeks – 1/5 in June
P.T.O
Should you not have been paying contributions under any section of the National Insurance scheme either voluntarily or compulsorily prior to you service in the ranks, and do not desire to continue to contribute, Air Ministry Order A204/41 provides for an option to “contract out.” The necessary form may be obtained from your Commanding Officer, and when completed should be forwarded through him to the Controller, Ministry of Health, Insurance Department, Blackpool, for his consideration.
