                <text>Eight items. Collection consists of a log book, an interview and other items concerning  Flight Lieutenant Cecil 'Jack' Alison Hayley DFC. Items include photographs of aircraft and people, a letter concerning his Distinguished Flying Cross and well as newspaper cuttings concerning operations, his wedding and the award of the Distinguished Flying Cross. After training he completed tours on 625 Squadron at RAF Kelstern, then 170 Squadron at RAF Hemswell before going on to a bomber defence training flight flying Hurricanes and Spitfires.&#13;

            <text>170 SQUADRON RAF HEMSWELL DECEMBER 1944&#13;

AWARDED D.F.C. – The Distinguished Flying Cross has been awarded to an Aylesbury Air Force officer, Acting Flight Lieutenant Cecil Allison Hayley, R.A.F.V.R., No. 170 Squadron.  He enlisted in August, 1941, trained in Canada and was commissioned in April, 1943.  The award was for numerous operations against the enemy, in the course of which he invariably displayed the utmost fortitude, courage and devotion to duty. &#13;
&#13;
Awarded D.F.C. – Flight Lieutenant Cecil Allison Hayley, R.A.F.V.R., the award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to whom was announced in the June 1st. issue of the “Buck Herald,” married Noreen only daughter of Mr, and Mrs, J. Dickinson, of Brook Farm, Weston, Turville, in 1943.  The Distinguished Flying Cross has been awarded to Flight Lieut. Hayley in recognition of conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty throughout his operational careers.  He has taken part in numerous raids over enemy territory as pilot of heavy aircraft, including many hazardous operations deep into Germany, and has on these occasions displayed the utmost fortitude and courage.  This officer was recommended for this award in December, 1944, whilst holding the rank of Acting Flight Lieut. Since then this promotion has been made substantive. &#13;
