My beloved sweetheart Myrtle
I write this in case I am winged & fail to make a safe landing on an operation undertaken against the common enemy. The risks of flying have been well worth while and although you may have thought me selfish in doing so you know now that I did it feeling my own small part may have had some influence in hastening the ultimate end of the ghastly war so that I could be with you again and so that would again share our lives. My wish to be with you [insert] at home [/insert] again I know is shared by all in the Services far & near is the desire of all peace loving men. There have been many occasions when I’ve felt terribly lonely without you. I know
[page break]
you have felt this loneliness too. Your loneliness has in reality been far greater than mine. You have always been cheerful & loving. I on the other hand have sometimes been morose and many a time have been thoughtless.
You have been wonderful my sweetheart at all times. May God bless you and keep you.
We have a lovely little boy and I am very very proud of him and I love him dearly. But it is to you dearest I owe my thanks; it is to you I look with great pride. I pray that Clive may grow up to be a fine gentleman. May he grow up in stature and in mind. I know my dearest Myrtle [insert] you [/insert] will train him well. In your hands dearest he is the best hands possible.
You dearest are my hearts delight wherever you are I long to be. We have really been very fortunate since we have been together. We have enjoyed married life & a
[page break]
beautiful home for a number of years. There are many who have not been half as fortunate. My enjoyment has been all due to you dearest, to your patience & love.
To the sweetest dearest beloved in the world I say cheerio till we meet again. In the meantime my love may you be greatly blessed and may Clive grow up to realize what a lovely mother he has
God be with you
& with all my love
as always
