My dear Douglas,

There hasn’t been any letter from you since Saturday and we were wondering if you had received the parcel of Shirts etc. We have received the enclosed Telegrams this afternoon and no doubt you will be acknowledging same. We too have had several letters. One was from the Rev TH Lilburn, also from Mrs Thompson & Dorothy Wood, Mrs Robinson from Newcastle who also enclosed the Sunday Sun which paper had

a paragraph inserted. There is also a P.C. from the Humble family which I am enclosing.

We had Ella, Cecil & the Girls in to see us on Sunday night they had been to Osmotherley. They were glad to see you had been awarded the D.F.C. no doubt you have had a communication from them on this.

Mam & I have been over to Osmotherley today where we met Mrs Gilbert & Nan they both offered their congratulations. Mrs Constantine & Mrs Barnard both said how pleased they were to hear of your Decoration. I jokingly told them you had put Harsley on the map.
