Vic Izzard’s Royal Air Force Observer’s and Air Gunner’s Flying Log Book from 26th June 1942 until 2nd July 1945. During this time trained as a rear gunner.
In Australia attended No 1. Recruit Depot, No. 1 Wireless Air Gunnery School, No. 1 Initial Training School, No. 2 Wireless Air Gunnery School, No. 2 Bombing and Gunnery School.
During September/October 1943 travelled to the United Kingdom to be posted to 27 Operational Training Unit.
Posted to 1654 Heavy Conversion Unit, No. 5 Lancaster Finishing School, and then 467 (RAAF) Squadron for operations.
On 2 July 1945 embarked for return to Australia.
Served at RAAF Ballarat, RAAF Somers, RAAF Parkes, RAAF Port Pirie, RAAF Ascot Vale, RAAF Bradfield Park, RAF Lichfield, RAF Church Broughton, RAF Scampton, RAF Wigsley, RAF Syerston, RAF Waddington.
Aircraft flown were Battle, Wellington, Stirling, Lancaster.
He flew 31 operations (12 day and 19 night) with 467 Squadron. His targets were Falaise, Gilze-Rijen, Stettin, Bordeaux, Darmstadt, Königsberg, Rollancourt, Brest, Le Havre, Stuttgart, Boulogne, Bremerhaven, Dortmund-Ems Canal, Bremen, Flushing, Nuremberg, Bergen, Ems-Weser Canal, Munich, Urft Dam, Gdynia, Rheydt, Moss, Oslo Fjord, Houffalize, Politz, Nordhausen, Lützkendorf, Pilzen.
On the 8/9th April 1945 his aircraft was chased by a Ju 88.
His pilots were Squadron Leader Broad, Flying Officer Stewart and Wing Commander Douglas.
