Description
Jack Whitehouse joined the RAF and trained as a Wireless Operator/Air Gunner before joining 35 Squadron, Pathfinder Force, at Graveley, flying Halifax Mk II. His first operation was to a special target in northwest France and he was shot down during an operation to Stuttgart. He parachuted to safety, only to be captured. Jack endured interrogations, harsh conditions, forced marches, and friendly fire before liberation in May 1945. Jack was promoted to Warrant Officer 1st Class at RAF Pershore and demobbed in March 1946.
