RAF High Wycombe was the headquarters of Bomber Command during World War Two. It is located 4 miles (6 kms) north west of High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire.

The station was selected as a more secure site for the headquarters of Bomber Command away from London. Building work commenced in 1938 with separate sites amongst the trees connected by tunnels, including an operations bunker buried 55 ft (17 m) below ground. Bomber Command HQ took up residence in March 1940 although construction work continued. Arthur Harris was based at the station as Commander in Chief of Bomber Command from February 1942 until the end of the war. During the war the secret site was known by its codename ‘Southdown’ and it only became a fully recognised station and given the official title of RAF High Wycombe in 1969. The station is currently the Headquarters of Air Command, the European Air Group and the UK Space Command.
