Originally a World War One station RAF Heliopolis was used during World War Two by 6, 40, 84, 208, 211 and 216 Squadrons amongst many others. Aircraft flown included Blenheims, Wellingtons, Hurricanes and Spitfires. The site is now the Headquarters of the Egyptian Air Force.
