84 Squadron

84 Squadron has been based overseas since 1920. In the early part of the war 84 Squadron, flying Blenheims, operated in from RAF Heliopolis and other stations in Egypt, Greece, RAF Aqir in Palestine and Iraq. In early 1942 the squadron moved to Sumatra and then Java but was soon evacuated back to India as the Japanese advanced. During 1943 the squadron converted to Vultee Vengeance aircraft and deployed to Burma in early 1944. After six months the squadron was withdrawn and without aircraft until February 1945 when it started to convert to Mosquitos but it was not operational when the Pacific war ended. 84 Squadron is currently based at RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus.
