Description

Don Bennett wearing Imperial Airways uniform on arrival at Boucherville, Montreal, on 21 July 1938, having flown non-stop from Foynes, Ireland. He set three world records: first commercial payload across the Atlantic; the first non-stop east-to-west flight from UK to Montreal; and the fastest east-to-west Atlantic crossing of 13 hours and 29 minutes.

A crowd of people are standing behind him. Attached is note asking that the photograph be passed to Captain Bennett, signed John. On the reverse 'Montreal (Boucherville) -1938- Capt D C T Bennett-- The conclusion of historical trans-Atlantic flight of "piggy back" Mercury (via Foynes and Botwood)'. Submitted with caption 'Imperial Airways Captain Don Bennett with attached inscription from "Radio Guy"'.
