Trotz misslungenem Attentat auf Hitler, proklamieren Generale Friedensregierung
Title
Trotz misslungenem Attentat auf Hitler, proklamieren Generale Friedensregierung
Despite a failed assassination attempt on Hitler, Generals declare a peace government
Description
In light of the open hostility between the army and party, following the generals failed assassination attempt on Hitler and their declared peace government, the leaflet makes an appeal to the German workers. It urges them, for the first time since 1933, to decide Germany’s future by acting together as a peace movement to end the war, referring to their power in numbers. It notes that Hitler acknowledged the generals’ rebellion in a radio address on 21 July. It claims the army and party are fighting for their own future with the National Socialists trying to prolong the war to postpone their demise. The German generals understand the precarious military situation and advocate a peace agreement to prevent further bloodshed.
