Dunkirk
Title
Dunkirk
Description
Two aerial reconnaissance photographs. The first print has the caption '2004 D/30 542 Sqdn 15.2.43 F/20' and is annotated with 'Bomb plot (b) SA223 13.2.43 Dunkirk Neg No 19347' and numerous white dots towards the bottom of the print. The beach and dunes can be seen at the bottom right. Canals, docks and jetties are surrounded by dock infrastructure. Several large ships are visible in dry dock lower centre, with lighters seen tied to dock sides throughout. Bomb craters and damaged circular tanks are towards the top of the photograph. Railway sidings cross left to right. The second print is west of the first "Bomb Plot (b)" and has the caption '2009 D/30 542 Sqdn 15.2.43 F/20' and is annotated 'Bomb Plot (a) SA223 13.2.43 Dunkirk Neg No19348' and shows numerous white dots over the docks. The beach / dunes / sea is to the right of the photograph. Many docks are shown, with some smaller vessels and lighters tied to the docksides. A railway with sidings runs top to bottom on the left. The main lock into the docks, centre right, appears to contain some obstruction.
