Description

RAF West Malling was a Fighter Command station located 5 miles (8 kms) west of Maidstone in Kent.

Opened in June 1940 RAF West Malling was initially used by Defiants and Army co-operation Lysanders. From 1941 the station was used by Beaufighter, Havoc and Boston night fighters. Spitfires, Hurricanes, Typhoons, Tempests and P-51 Mustangs also used flew from the station during the war. Mosquitos from RAF West Malling played a prominent role in the defence against V-1 attacks.
