Friday. 30th August ’40.
Dear Doris.
Many thanks for your letter am pleased you are keeping O.K. in spite of the numerous raids – if this war goes on much longer they will start building houses under the ground, & everyone will live like rabbits.
Guess it was a great pity about Aunt Ada, Dolly & Bob having to hire a taxi, but they must get out & about sometimes.
Yes I heard about the Alcazar being bombed from Georgie some time ago, her friend at the office lives in Edmonton, I wrote & mentioned it to mum & dad, for they had [deleted word] refrained from telling me. That was certainly getting too close, but lets hope they don’t get any nearer. It doesn’t matter about the Alcazar for it was a dump anyway.
Congratulations to old John Hyde, good show, guess he & Rosie must be doing alright for themselves. No I have lost contact with Crozier & all my old friends, being in the R.A.F. one has to keep making friends & losing them, saying hello then goodbye, gosh we get plenty of variation. Well news

is scarce, for all is quiet up here, & I am just jogging along same as usual, only the other day I was innoculated, [sic] it wasn’t too good but I got over it.
So for now cheerio & all the best to you & Arthur, keep smiling & don’t let the raids get you down, they don’t us & they bombed this drome three nights running. Cheerio.
