RHODESIAN AIR CASUALITIES
The Minister of Air regrets to announce the following Rhodesian casualties: -
Pilot Officer Ronald Harwood, son of Mr. W. Harwood, of Limbe, Nyasaland, killed as the result of an aircraft accident on January 12, 1943.
Flying Officer Lawrence Gerard Lyons McNamara, husband of Mrs F. E. McNamara, of London, missing as the result of air operations on December 17-18, 1942.
Flight Lieut. Arthur Russel Chaplin, son of Mr. A. F. Chaplin of Johannesburg, missing as the result of air operations on January 17, 1943.
Sgt. Air Gunner Douglas Harold Cumming, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Cumming, of Banket, injured as the result of air operations on January 11-12, 1943.
Careers
Pilot Officer Harwood was born in Nyasaland on July 17, 1922 and educated at St. George’s College, Salisbury. He attested in September, 1941, received preliminary training in this country, went to the Union for further training in August, 1942, and then proceeded overseas. He was formerly a tobacco grader with Imperial Tobacco Co. at Limbe.
Flying Officer McNamara was born on April 8, 1915, at Jubbilpore, India and educated at St. John’s College, Southsea. Before the war he was employed with Messrs. Speight, Goldby and Webber as an audit clerk. He attested in December, 1940, and after preliminary training in this Colony proceeded overseas in September, 1941.

Flight Lieut. Chaplin was employed with the Bushtick Mines, Ltd., before attesting in the R.A.F. in July, 1940, and proceeding overseas the same month for training. He was born at Johannesburg on December 15, 1916, and educated at the Jeppe High School there.
Sgt. Cumming was born on May 2, 1918, and educated at Pietersburg High School. He attested in August, 1941, received preliminary training in this country, proceeded overseas in November the same year and to the Middle East in August, 1942. His civil employment was that of a carpenter and joiner with the P.W.D., Salisbury.
Acting Flight Lieut. W. J. E. Hagger, who was previously reported missing as the result of air operations on July 6, 1942, is now officially presumed to have been killed on that date.
