After completing my training at Engineering School I served with Bomber Command at operational units, for the whole of my service career. This meant that I was daily involved in the starting, running and testing of aircraft engines and associated equipment. I also experienced considerable hours of flight testing.

During the first two years of service, I also experienced numerous [word deleted] bombing and machine gun attacks by enemy aircraft, and was on several occasions in close proximity to exploding H.E. bombs.

Since leaving the R.A.F. my hearing [deleted] has gradually [/deleted] deteriorated to a point where I cannot now engage in conversation or socialise with a group of people. I have a [sic] N.H.S. Hearing Aid, but it is of little use when attending Church or social meetings.
