5 June.

Dear Folks, glad to hear from you and Billy yesterday. I am still quite well and comparatively happy. When time permits I have been studying [inserted] Bookkeeping [/inserted] Business Organisation Salesmanship etc. There seems nothing else that would be beneficial to me. My mail is coming through regularly now so copy the address as before – with the “F/Sgt etc”. There is another Taplin here from Sheffield. By the way I am becoming an expert at Bridge and Chess. Send as much tobacco as you can. And dont forget a pipe or two. [inserted] & cigs [/inserted] You can send one in a book parcel. If you like. Any modern books will do of [inserted] & Mason [/inserted] A.P. Heberts [sic], Crown, Deeping, Sayes, Evans, [inserted] etc [/inserted] you know the kind. Let me know about that allotment.

Well Keep well, give my regards to Emma, Mrs Catmore & Joe etc. Well I must close. Keep Smiling
See you Soon – John x x x x x
