Dear Madam
I take the liberty of writing some words to you. It is the first letter. I write after having recovered my liberty. I hope in this moment you have some news from John I am a Polish as you probably know taken by the Germans as a prisoner of war after the [indecipherable word] fall [indecipherable word] of August in Warsaw in 1944. For some weeks I partook John’s fate of a prisoner of war in the same camp in Mühlberg. We became friends and even in the camps we continued our correspondence till the last moment where Dutchland was cut from the south of Germany by the First Polish Armoured Division and the Canadian Army. I have not any news from my country and family. I try to have some contact with abroad so I dared to write to you. Please, be so kind as to answer me and send me some news about John.
