Dear Mr Taplin,

Thank you so much for replying to my letter. I realized there may have been other people writing to you, and I did not expect to hear from you. I was only too pleased to be able to tell you a little of what had happened after his re-patriation.

However, it was interesting to read what had happened and I am only sorry you didn’t have better luck with your escape attempts.

Anyway – “alls well that ends well” isn't it – and Im pleased you were able to return home and settle down. How marvellous [sic] for you both that your son has done so well. I hope he will be very happy when he marries and that you & Mrs Taplin will

be blessed with grandchildren like I am.

How kind it is of you to arrange for a memorial plaque! Mr & Mrs Edwards would have been so thrilled bless them – and I feel grateful myself although my relationship with Ronald didnt come to anything as I told you.

However I was very fond of Ronald and I am grateful to think you spared him further hardship.

Whenever you and Mrs Taplin come to Lancashire – you will be very welcome – I shall be pleased to see you.

Yours sincerely

Josephine Duncan.
