Description
RAF Lyneham was an RAF station located in Wiltshire 6 miles (10 kms) north east of Chippenham.

The station opened in 1940 and hard runways constructed in 1941. 511 Squadron used B-24s and Albermarles to operate transport flights to Gibraltar and Malta. Later 511 Squadron used Yorks and the B-24s were operated by 246 Squadron. Post war RAF Lyneham continued with its transport role until closure in 2012. The site is still owned by the Ministry of Defence.
