MARDY
Presumed Killed. – Mr. and Mrs. J. Roberts, 54, Griffith Street, Mardy, have now been officially notified that their son, Sergt. G. F. (Fred) Roberts, missing since January 5, 1943, has now been presumed killed. Sergt. Roberts was an old pupil of Mardy Boys' School and left the district at the age of 18. Before joining up he was chef at the Grosvenor Hotel, Swanage, Dorset. He joined the R.A.F., V.R., in 1940, and was made Sergeant Air Gunner in 1941. He made many operational flights including the first thousand bomber raid and it was on his last operational flight on January 4/5 over the Rhur that his plane failed to return. He leaves a wife and two children, who reside at Swanage.
