Leigh Airman Missing
Flying as wireless operator on what was probably his first operational flight against the enemy, Sergeant Granville Graham, aged 21, is reported missing after his bomber crashed into the sea. Sergeant Graham only recently completed his training and was home on leave a week ago.

He reported to a bomber squadron on Monday week to take up operational duties, and was in high spirits on his. return His parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. Graham, 85 Maple-crescent, Leigh, received a letter from the Air Ministry on Friday containing the following extract: "We regret to have to inform you that your son, Sergt. Granville Graham, is missing, the aircraft of which he was wireless operator having crashed into the sea off –– on the 7th of November, during an operational flight. This does not necessarily mean that he is killed or wounded. I will communicate with you again immediately I have any further information . . .”
Sergt. Graham's family hope that he may have been picked up by a ship and are anxiously awaiting further news. Graham is well known in Leigh. He was one of the original "Harmony Five," and later was the melody singer in the "Four Kordites." He broadcast 15 times in the Northern programme, "Spot Page." and has appeared at local theatres on many occasions.
Born at Knutsford, he came to Leigh at an early age. He attended the Windermere-rd. Council School and the Leigh Grammar School. He was employed in the office at the Albion Foundry, volunteered for air crew duties in the R.A.F. last September, and was subsequently trained as wireless operator air gunner.
He attended the Westleigh Methodist Church and at one time was a primary teacher. A keen Scout, he became patrol leader in the St. John's Scout troop.
