No. 12 Squadron,
Royal Air Force,
Binbrook, Lincoln.
11th October, 1941.
Dear Mr Cosgrove
I deeply regretted having to send you the telegram informing you that your son had been killed in the early hours of this morning, as the result of air operations.
During the time that your son had been with the Squadron, he had become very popular. As his Commanding Officer I always found him thoroughly reliable, and eager to do his utmost. His loss will be greatly felt, and on behalf of all Officers and men of the Squadron I would like to offer my deepest sympathy.
With regard to your son's personal effects, these are being despatched to the Royal Air Force Central Depository, at Colnbrook, Slough, Bucks, and they will be writing to you in due course.
Yours Sincerely
